Australian Horse Identification Rules Under RevisionBy Press Release · June 8, 2011

The Australian Horse Industry Council (AHIC) recently released a statement reminding horse owners of changes regarding identification in the Revision of the Code of Practice for the Welfare of Horses. This code is under the Victorian Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986. The revised code is now a final draft and is to be presented.

Under the proposed minimum standards to avoid cruelty to animals, horses are not to be branded using hot irons or corrosive chemicals.

While the revision has yet been presented, breed organizations and other groups that use branding as a form of identification should alert their members of the pending change.

See the statement from AHIC, including minimum standards and guidelines.
