Bedding PreferenceBy Kentucky Equine Research Staff · December 13, 2010
According to a recent survey, about 70% of respondents bed their horses' stalls with shavings, while 10% use straw. About one-third of owners use rubber stall mats, either with or without additional material.
Six percent don't use bedding, allowing the horse to stand directly on the dirt floor, and about 11% of horses are turned out and rarely or never come into a stall.
