Canada to Host 2018 World Equestrian GamesBy Kentucky Equine Research Staff · June 16, 2014
The Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) has approved the bid submitted by Bromont/Montreal to host the FEI World Equestrian Games in 2018. WEG, as the competition is known, spotlights all equestrian disciplines that are regulated by the FEI. Events will be held in and around the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park, the same property that hosted the equestrian competition during the 1976 Olympic Games.
The 2014 WEG will be held later this year in Normandy, France. The 2010 competition was held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, marking the first time the major international event was located outside Europe.
Kentucky Equine Research (KER) managed the acquisition and distribution of hay, grain, and bedding used by horses competing at the 2010 event. KER designed a number of custom feed formulations and offered them to the riders and drivers competing at WEG. Because the energy demands are different for horses in various disciplines such as endurance racing, dressage, and vaulting, KER nutritionists used multiple energy substrates in the formulation of the feeds.
