Coffin Fractures CommonBy Kentucky Equine Research Staff · December 20, 2010

Coffin (pedal) bone fractures in young Warmblood horses are common, affecting the majority of horses on some farms, according to recent research. Radiographs showed large numbers of young horses had one or more coffin bone fractures during their first year. Lameness was generally not seen and the fractures healed in three to six months without specific treatment beyond routine hoof trimmings.
