Double Bronze for Georgia BruceBy Kentucky Equine Research Staff · October 18, 2008
KER-sponsored rider Georgia Bruce rode Carolyn Lieutenant's huge brown gelding Victory Salute (known as Sam to his friends) to bring home two bronze medals in the Grade IV individual competition at the Paralympic Games in Hong Kong.
Bruce, from Karanda in Queensland, has only been partnered with Sam for the past six weeks. Although they had only a short time together to become familiar with one another, their hard work has certainly paid off. Georgia rode expertly in the first section of the competition to take home the bronze medal in the individual test. Two nights later the pair convincingly backed up its previous performance, scoring an impressive 74.32% in the freestyle to again take the bronze, narrowly missing the silver and just 2% off the gold medal position.
Following on from the excitement of the Games, Georgia will be traveling home to Queensland prior to making the long trip to Melbourne. Georgia has been invited to participate in Equitana Asia Pacific, demonstrating clicker training with her liberty-trained Grand Prix horse Rumba.
