Equine Herpesvirus Affects TravelBy Kentucky Equine Research Staff · July 11, 2011

An outbreak of equine herpesvirus type 1 has affected horses in several western regions of the United States and western Canada. One case of the disease has been reported in Florida but is not believed to be related to the outbreak in the western U.S. Although the outbreak is now considered to be under control, with all reported cases quarantined, the situation has triggered entrance and travel restrictions by some states. If owners plan interstate transport for their horses, they are advised to check current regulations in the states through which the horse will travel. The state veterinarian in each state will have the most recent updates.
