Feed and Food SupplyBy Kentucky Equine Research Staff · March 16, 2011
Figures released at the Humboldt Forum on Food & Agriculture showed rising prices worldwide for agricultural commodities, especially corn and wheat. The trend is predicted to lead to a crisis within the next 10 years when agricultural commodities could be 50 to 100% more expensive.
A predicted doubling of the world's human food needs by 2050 will mean increased competition for grains used in animal feeds. A suggestion by Harald von Witzke, Humboldt president, supports a global reinvestment in agricultural education, infrastructure, and technology.
