First of the Equestrian Grand Final Qualifiers Held Last Weekend at WerribeeBy Press Release · March 30, 2011
PSI Dressage and Jumping with the Stars (DJWTS) at Werribee last weekend hosted the first qualifier for the 2011 Equestrian Grand Final.
The DJWTS Grand Prix Freestyle (CDI-W), held on Saturday night, tested 11 of Australia's leading dressage combinations, with Queensland's Chantal Wigan and Ferero coming out on top with a score of 71.2%. In second place was Olympian Mary Hanna (Vic) and Umbro with a score of 68.3%.
Chantal and her 12-year-old gelding Ferero have been in great form since returning to Australia last October after training in Europe for the past four years. The pair won the 2010 World Cup Final (Pacific League) and just last weekend won all the Grand Prix classes at the first CDI3* of the year at Boneo Park (Vic).
DJWTS was the first of five dressage qualifying events for the 2011 Equestrian Grand Final. The next will be the Sydney CDI3* (28-30 April) at Sydney International Equestrian Centre, Horsley Park.
The first of the jumping and exhibition eventing qualifiers will both be held at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in April, with the jumping on 20 April and the first exhibition eventing class on 19 April.
The inaugural Equestrian Grand Final will be a spectacular multidiscipline event held at Equitana Sydney 10-13 November at the renowned Sydney Showground. This competition will showcase the “best of the best” and will include 48 of the top riders from around the country.
Equitana attracts around 50,000 spectators during the four-day event. The Equestrian Grand Final will welcome a competition atmosphere not seen before in Australia.
