Biosecurity officials have confirmed Hendra virus on eight Queensland properties this year. Ten horses have died.
Eleven facilities remain quarantined after restrictions were lifted on two properties in the Beaudesert area following three rounds of negative testing. All horses on quarantined properties appeared clinically normal as of August 1.
Biosecurity Queensland has launched a campaign to encourage all Queensland horse owners and handlers to utilize an information pack on Hendra virus.
The information outlines how horse owners can reduce the risk of their horses becoming infected and includes information on:
- What Hendra virus is
- How to protect their horses
- What to do if their horse becomes ill.
Horse owners can access the pack by subscribing online.
