Keeping Track of Equine Body Condition: Get Some Help from KERBy Kentucky Equine Research Staff · December 10, 2014
In the winter season, horses with thick coats may begin to lose weight without appearing to be too thin. Don’t wait until spring to find out that your horse has gotten pretty ribby under all that hair.
One way to keep track of body condition is to periodically compare your horse to a chart describing the characteristics of horses that are too thin, too heavy, or at the right weight. This free downloadable chart prepared by Kentucky Equine Research uses pictures and directions to guide horse owners through the easy steps to match their horses to body condition scores from 1 (poor) to 9 (extremely fat).
