Australian Emma Ford, one of the new year-long interns at Kentucky Equine Research (KER), came all the way from Griffith, New South Wales.
Emma grew up with stock-type horses. She has also evented with Thoroughbreds. She earned her degree in equine science at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga. While attending university, she completed a research project about herbal nutrition.
While Emma is interning at KER, she hopes to learn more about and apply equine nutrition and research. After her internship, Emma hopes to pursue a career in equine nutrition.
Emma was a vet nurse at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) and found that she is gifted when it comes to bathing cats. She was also bitten by an Australian brown snake when she was 16 years old and survived.
