KER Intern Spotlight: Megan GarzilloBy Kentucky Equine Research Staff · August 15, 2016
In addition to the research interns, Kentucky Equine Research (KER) is also hosting a growth and development intern in partnership with Hallway Feeds. Megan Garzillo is from Bangor, Pennsylvania.
Throughout her childhood, Megan’s family had horses. She got her first horse when she was eight and now does a little bit of everything when it comes to riding, but she is primarily interested in dressage.
Megan received her bachelor’s degree in animal science from the University of Kentucky, with a focus on equine science.
As the growth and development intern, Megan measures foals, weanlings, and yearlings throughout central Kentucky. She records weights, heights, and body condition scores, and then references the data to those collected at previous times. Monitoring for bone abnormalities is a major focus.
Megan loves driving around different farms and talking to farm managers because they share stories and welcome any questions she may have.
When Megan isn’t riding, she really enjoys photography.
