KER Nutrition Program Shows Fast ResultsBy Kentucky Equine Research Staff · June 18, 2015
After struggling to manage their farm’s nutrition plan to suit every horse, eventers Dom and Jimmie Schramm transitioned their entire barn onto a Kentucky Equine Research (KER) program in April.
“A big challenge for us, because we deal with a lot of Thoroughbreds, is getting the horses to hold weight and look well,” Dom said. “It’s just amazing to see the differences in all the horses after only a couple months on a KER nutrition program. Their weight is great, coats are blooming, and we’re seeing lots of healthy hoof growth, even in the Thoroughbreds. They’ve never looked so good.”
Five-year-old off-the-track Thoroughbred Wash is one example of the changes the Schramms have seen in all their charges. In just a couple months, his weight and condition have improved dramatically.
The Schramms are sponsored by KER and use KERx Special Needs Nutrition products to provide targeted support to their hardworking horses. Bio•Bloom™ PS promotes and maintains healthy skin and hooves through inclusion of nutrients at levels shown to improve hoof quality and speed growth, plus lecithin and essential fatty acids from full-fat soybean, ingredients that are necessary for production of resilient hoof horn and shiny coats.
“Every horse in the barn is getting Bio•Bloom,” Jimmie said. “It’s been really interesting to see the quick change in them, including hoof growth. That’s so important, especially for the Thoroughbreds who don’t always have the greatest feet.”
For joint support, the Schramms rely on Synovate® HA, a glycosaminoglycan that is an important structural component of joint cartilage and is responsible for the thickness of the synovial fluid. Synovate HA helps manage joint health proactively by preventing the loss of hyaluronic acid.
The Schramms’ horses also receive feed from KER partner Legends® Horse Feeds. KER partner horse feeds incorporate custom blends of KER’s own micronutrient ingredients. These micronutrients are designed to deliver the optimal amount and proper balance of critical vitamins and minerals to each class of horse for performance, breeding, growth, and overall health. When used as directed, horse feeds containing KER micronutrient blends deliver the precise nutrients horses need to complement the forage portion of the diet. Find a KER partner feed near you.
