Joe Pagan, Ph.D., founder and president of Kentucky Equine Research (KER), provided the keynote address at the British Horse Society (BHS) Welfare Conference 2015: Unlocking the Secrets of Horse Behaviour on October 22 at Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool, England.
This year’s conference was chaired by Natalie Warren, director of the Jeanne Marchig International Centre for Animal Welfare Education at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Medicine in Edinburgh.
Other speakers included Sebastian McBride, Ph.D., of Aberystwyth University; Matthew Leach, Ph.D., Newcastle University Centre for Behaviour and Evolution; and Nic DeBrauwere, M.R.C.V.S., and Roxane Kirton, M.R.C.V.S., Redwings Horse Sanctuary.
Among other goals, the British Horse Society promotes and advances the education, training, and safety of the public in all matters relating to the horse, and fosters the well-being, health, and management of the horse for the public benefit.
