Kentucky Equine Research maintains a herd of research horses on its 150-acre farm in Central Kentucky. These experienced horses are KER’s most valuable employees and are meticulously cared for by a large staff. Learn more about KER’s research horse program here.

Meet Lute, a bay Thoroughbred gelding. He was purchased in 2009 as a racing prospect and started racing in 2013, earning $8,856 during his career at the track. He returned to the farm as a sport-horse prospect in 2015 and rejoined the research herd the following year.

Lute now participates in a variety of studies involving exercise, palatability, and gastroscopy.
