MycotoxinsBy Kentucky Equine Research Staff · January 7, 2011

The impact of molds and mycotoxins on the animal industry can be seen in several areas: direct market losses for grains and feeds that are rejected for use because mycotoxin levels exceed the guidelines for animal consumption; indirect market losses caused by adverse health effects; and production losses related to animals consuming feed with low levels of mycotoxins. A recent analysis in the United States found an estimated direct loss of $342 million and indirect losses of about $8.4 million per year.
