Nominate a KER-Associated Feed Mill for RecognitionBy Kentucky Equine Research Staff · May 28, 2014

Kentucky Equine Research (KER) has a number of Team Member companies that manufacture horse feeds formulated by KER. These Team Members are spread across the country to serve horse owners in various geographic regions. If you purchase any feed with the KER name on the bag, that product came from one of these associated feed mills.

The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) holds an annual contest to choose an outstanding feed mill. The winning feed mill is selected on the basis of safety, product quality, regulatory compliance, efficiency of operation, other industry awards, and overall excellence in feed manufacturing.

To be considered for designation as Feed Mill of the Year, a company must be a current member of the AFIA and must submit an online application. Judging is based on results of an on-site facility inspection as well as the application. A winner and runner-up will be announced in the fall, and these companies will be allowed to use the Feed Mill of the Year logo for promotional materials. All applicants will receive suggestions on improving their mill’s operations and efficiency.

If you feed KER-formulated grain products to your horses, contact the staff at the feed mill that manufactures these products and encourage them to apply for the award. Questions about the Feed Mill of the Year program can be answered by calling 703-558-3568.
