Quarter Horse Sire First Down Dash DiesBy Kentucky Equine Research Staff · January 4, 2011

First Down Dash, a leading Quarter Horse stallion standing at Vessels Stallion Farm in California, has died of natural causes at the age of 26. He was the son of Dash For Cash, also a record-setting horse.

First Down Dash raced 15 times and claimed 13 wins including six victories as a three-year-old, after which he was named AQHA champion three-year-old and champion three-year-old colt.

As a sire, he had racehorses from 20 foal crops that included 1163 winners and 224 stakes winners. He was an outstanding producer of successful breeding stock, both stallions and broodmares, with progeny earnings totaling more than $73 million.

For years, First Down Dash was nourished by feeds formulated by Kentucky Equine Research and manufactured by Associated Feeds, a Kentucky Equine Research Team Member.
