Record International Corn Crop Predicted By Kentucky Equine Research Staff · July 5, 2012
An early planting season and favorable weather have led to predictions of a record harvest, possibly as much as 9% larger than the total for 2011.
This global figure will be boosted by an increase of nearly 20% in the U.S., where planted acres greatly exceed those in recent years. Corn demand by the ethanol industry is expected to be no greater than in the last several seasons, leaving a larger volume of corn available for other uses including animal feeds.
Recent drought conditions in several states may call for this prediction to be amended as the summer progresses.
