According to a study performed at the Equine Research Center at Guelph University in Canada, ginseng may help horses increase their antibody level after a vaccination.

In the study, horses in one group were fed powdered ginseng in a molasses carrier for 28 days. Horses in a control group were managed identically but did not receive ginseng in their feed ration. On day 14 of the treatment period, all of the horses were vaccinated against equine herpesvirus.

Horses in the ginseng group showed an increase in antibody titer within two days compared to six days for horses in the control group.

The researchers suggested that low-dose dietary supplementation with ginseng in healthy horses could be a useful adjunct to vaccination.
