Even if you’ve put your horse on the trailer hundreds of times, there might still be something you could do better or differently to make his travels more comfortable.

Two new downloadable booklets released by the University of Kentucky’s Saddle Up Safely program are full of tips on choosing a trailer, getting the horse ready to travel, pulling the trailer safely, and overcoming the horse’s loading problems.

If you’re making a permanent relocation with your horse, there’s also an explanation of how equines react to this type of change and what to expect as your horse settles into his new home.

To access “Trailering Your Horse Safely” or “Travel to a New Environment,” or to share your own horse-related experiences, go to the Saddle Up Safely website.
