White ThoroughbredsBy Kentucky Equine Research Staff · April 18, 2011

White Thoroughbred horses are rare, with only about 100 registered by The Jockey Club. One family of the ghostly equines originated in 1963 at Patchen Wilkes Farm in central Kentucky. The foal of a chestnut stallion and a bay mare, the brown-eyed filly White Beauty became the foundation mare of the line. Their white coloration comes not from an albino ancestor but from a mutation that is stable and dominant. So far, this line has produced a lot of interest at sales and among track spectators, but no outstanding racehorses have emerged.
